For a professional boxer or someone who is serious about boxing or martial arts training, the conventional hanging punching bag like the one we see in the boxing club is best. It is highly noisy and takes up a lot of space in a room. There is no way to roll or shift it after it has been hanging.
The free stand punching bag is an excellent substitute for a tiny home apartment gym (video Youtube) if you want to exercise but lack the space. Most of them have suction cups at the bottom for added stability. The best flooring option would definitely be wood, although concrete garage floors would still hold up very well. It is obviously not a good idea to place it on top of a carpet.
You will need to consider paying around $200 for a decent quality punching bag. Anything under $150 and less is really a waste of money and will not last for a long time, even for beginners.
The most crucial factor to take into account before making a purchase is sturdiness. It must be able to withstand punches that are between medium and strong without constantly collapsing.
Durability: the very low quality punching, with time, the material inside the bag (foam) will deform and some particles will slowly rip off inside the bag and cause an accumulation of material at the bottom.
Rebounds are used in more modern free-standing punching bags to absorb shocks and reduce noise. When using it, you don’t want to constantly bother your neighbors, especially in apartments with wooden floors. Noise is a very crucial element.
Carpet is definitely not an option. The bag could be flipped to the ground by very powerful side kicks. The ideal method is to use play sand (Home Depot) as the base material rather than water. It will support greater weight and further stabilize the bag.
A free standing bag is not for professional boxers. they can hit the bag at 770 psi (pound per square inch). The bag will simply not hold on! The average force of a punch for an average person with no particular training skills is from 60 to 170 psi. The 4 free standing punching bags can hold any other level than professional. One of the strongest of all time: no surprise Mike Tyson 1800 psi!! wow
